Turning Stone’s Fly Fishing guides offer waded fly fishing trips on many different streams, rivers, and creeks across western North Carolina. The areas we fish vary from dense Rhododendron forests with small tributaries meandering about that are filled with tiny wild brook trout, to large rivers that are rough and tumbling that hold enormous, wild brown trout. We also frequently fish areas that are stocked with massive fish that increase your odds of catching a monster. We mainly guide wade trips on 3 different rivers, but we sometimes go off the beaten path based on the experience of the angler, and the current conditions. Under “Where We Fish” is a rundown of the rivers and areas we frequently fish. Click on the name for even more details about each area’s unique benefits, beauty, fish varieties available, and challenges We have a 3 client to 1 guide ratio which is represented in the price. If you would like a more specialized guided experience, we recommend a 2 client to 1 guide ratio, available at an added cost. Please call for details. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we work to provide you with an exceptional fly fishing adventure. Fly casting is a very important part of fly fishing. As you know, casting a fly rod can be a difficult venture without proper instruction! We offer casting lessons from two highly respected fly casters in the southeast. Gordon Vanderpool, the owner, is a (CCI) Certified Casting Instructor, and Paul Bourcq holds the title of an (MCI) Master Casting Instructor for the Federation of Fly Fishers. As you can see, Gordon and Paul make up the most experienced fly casters among guides in the Southeast!! Typical beginner lessons will include the roll cast, which is probably the most important cast you will ever learn for fly fishing these mountain streams. Then, we will work on the basic false cast, which is the back and forth motion most people see on TV. If you’re an advanced caster and need some tuning up, you’ve come to the right place! We at Turning Stone’s Fly Fishing have an eye for spotting most problems when it comes to the fly cast. Our goal is for you to walk away from the lesson better than when you arrived. Call us to arrange your casting lesson! Prices are at the rate of $40/hour. Let us fix that nagging tailing loop today!
