Learn on the Water

Individual or private group fly fishing class

Our Learn on the Water class turns you into a fly angler in a single day! Ideal for the beginning angler, this low-pressure learning opportunity can be scheduled to fit with your availability.

Phase one takes place in the Fall Line Outfitters classroom where we’ll decode all the gear, knots, and flies you’ll need to get started. After a lunch break, we'll reconvene streamside for phase 2. Here you’ll learn the basic mechanics of fly casting, safe wading practices, “reading the water”, delivering flies to their intended targets, and line management. Before you know it, you’ll be fly fishing!

No prior experience or gear is necessary to take this class. If you do have your own gear though, please bring it! It is always best to learn with what you will be using most often. Fall Line Outfitters can provide waders, boots, and fly rod outfits for those who need them at no extra cost! Our primary goal is to start your fly-fishing journey off on the right foot, one where the barriers to entry are low, assistance is readily available, and memorable experiences are had in beautiful places.

At the time of the class, you are expected to have a WI fishing license with trout stamp,and must sign our release of liability waiver. We also recommend bringing polarized sunglasses, water, sun/insect protection, and weather appropriate clothing.
