Tellico River Guided Trip (Aug 16-Feb 28)

Tellico Plains, Tennessee

Experience Level: Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced

As our spring and summer seasons wind down, we start to turn our attention to the fall and winter 'Delayed Harvest' season, which offers the best opportunity for the biggest trout of the year. This is easily the most popular season for fly anglers to enjoy the main river, minus the crowds. The 'out of towners' are largely gone from Tellico after the last leaves drop in the fall and the river is much quieter due to the catch and release regulations implemented from October through February. Thanks to East Tennessee's relatively mild winters, trout season on the Tellico continues well into the coldest of months and we have seen phenomenal days of fishing even in January and February. If you want the best shot at a trophy brown or rainbow and a chance to beat the crowds, this is the time of year for you.

*Peak Delayed Harvest season is from mid-October thru mid-December so if you're planning a trip for that time, make sure to book well in advance.*

All gear (rods, reels, waders, flies) provided for all trips. Lunch is provided on full day trips.

The Tellico River is one of the largest free-flowing trout streams in the Southeast and is featured in 'Trout Unlimited's Guide to America's 100 Best Trout Streams'. It is a classic eastern trout stream that winds its way through the forest corridor with a mix of deep pools and fast and tumbling pocket water. The river is heavily stocked with rainbow trout and brown trout, but also has a healthy population of wild rainbows as well as a few wild browns. The trout on the Tellico River average 12-14 inches. River Road parallels the river for nearly 20 miles, providing easy access. Because of these factors, the Tellico River is a great option for beginner to intermediate fly anglers and those looking for an enjoyable day on the water without a lot of hiking involved.

All gear (rods, reels, waders, flies) provided for all trips. Lunch is provided on full day trips.

Please Note: This trip is not available on Thursdays or Fridays due to Tellico River being closed on those days for weekly trout stocking. If you would like to book a trip on Thursday or Friday, please select the 'Wild Trout Trip' Option.

Wild Trout Fly Fishing Trip

Tellico Plains, Tennessee

Recommended Experience Level: Intermediate/Advanced

Break away from the mainstream and explore some of our wild trout water. These tributaries offer Appalachian small stream fishing in a more remote and less pressured setting than our Tellico River trips. These wild trout are opportunistic and eager to eat a fly. Dry fly fishing is excellent nearly year round. Our best insect hatches start in mid-March and continue through the summer months and into early fall. All trout on these streams are all wild and stream born, and typically range from 8-12" in size, which is typical for the southern Appalachians, but the opportunity for larger individual fish is always present. Species include rainbow trout, brown trout and brook trout.

This trip option is great for people who have some previous experience with fly fishing as casting on these smaller streams can be a challenge. We recommend the Tellico River trip option if you are a beginner.
